Rowing against cancer - team spirit on the water

Over the past few weeks, we have been preparing intensively for the "Rowing against Cancer" charity regatta on 28 June 2025 - with a very special challenge: our boat against 250 metres of Maschsee waves!

Out of the comfort zone, into the boat

The start was exciting: many of us had never sat in a rowing boat before. But with a lot of commitment and support from our coach, we gained our first experience in the technical boat. Different weather awaited us at every training session - sun, wind, rain - perfect for being prepared for all conditions.#Together is also very important in rowing, as we quickly learnt that we can only progress together. It was a great experience to try out new things, motivate each other and get to know colleagues from other areas better. A big thank you to our trainer for her patience and support!

A day full of team spirit, emotions and HDI spirit

Then came the day of the regatta: What an experience! The regatta was officially opened at 9.00 a.m. and the heats started on four lanes on the Maschsee. The weather was perfect and we started the first and second races with great motivation. Despite a few slip-ups, we did our best, had fun and always had the good cause in mind. Even though we didn't make it to the final, the day was full of emotion, community and unforgettable moments.

With eight HDI boats and 32 colleagues from different areas, we gave it our all. "Team spirit instead of best time" - a lovely quote from my colleague @Sandra Dammering that epitomises our regatta day. All the boats cheered each other on, the HDI spirit was clearly noticeable - and we already have our sights firmly set on next year. We want to be there again and fight cancer together!

A big thank you goes to the organisers at Hannover Medical School and to the rowing clubs and sponsors for this great event! A small highlight at the end: an ice cream from Nicezeit sponsored by HDI - the perfect way to round off an eventful day.

We are proud of our HDI boats - and are already looking forward to the next regatta.
