Hello, my name is Sina Röcker and I started the IT trainee program in Controlling at HDI Group after my business studies.

I would like to explain the advantages of the trainee program from my point of view and tell you what my job as an IT controller entails.

Why a trainee program and not direct entry?

For me, the main advantages of the trainee program are that I had the opportunity to continue my training and development immediately after completing my studies. The program offers me various framework points for this, which I can actively shape and align to my needs:

  • Trainings & Certifications: For example, I have done a certification as Scrum Master and Product Owner.
  • Job shadowing: Offers me the opportunity to get to know the areas I will be working with in my target position as well as departments that lie outside my area of responsibility. It also gave me the chance to quickly build up a broad network.
  • Extensive familiarization with the future target position
  • Independent design of trainee projects

Of course, points such as gaining work experience, a salary commensurate with my qualifications, and a permanent employment contract also had a positive influence on my decision.

Now a few words about my job as an IT controller.

Often, the job "controller" is associated with the monotonous work with Excel tables and the preparation of presentations.

As a divisional controller at the HDI Group, I was able to gain completely different experience. I work closely with the managers of the areas I'm responsible for and quickly gained an in-depth insight into IT and its issues.

My tasks include communication and exchange with the division managers, creating plans and budgets for costs in regular cycles and keeping an eye on the current actual of the division. In addition, I recently had the opportunity to support the design of the benefit collection for the new agile organization. Here I was able to deepen my knowledge of agile work processes gained from training courses in practice.
