In the summer of 2021, extremely heavy rain flooded the Ahr valley in North Rhine-Westphalia. The "low pressure area Bernd" event of the century brought 150 to 200 litres of rain per square metre, causing devastating damage.
Even for the experienced external regulators, "low pressure area Bernd" was a shocking experience which still moves the experts a year later. With Task Force Bernd, colleagues from outside were sent to the crisis area to inspect the serious damage. It was particularly important to reach an agreement on compensation as quickly as possible, preferably on the spot, so that the damage could be completed in a timely manner.
